One of the most recognizable elements of baroque style is the accompaniment of solos with a figured bass. Singers, violinists, recorder players and more relied on the basso continuo section, consisting of a bowed bass instrument and at least one improvising chordal instrument (harpsichord or lute or guitar, whatever was handy) to support them and make them sound beautiful. With “Back to Bassics” we dispense with all those troublesome treble instruments, and bring you the low-down on music featuring only your friendly neighbourhood basso continuo section.
Come enjoy music by Telemann, Marais, Schenck, Buxtehude and Bylina. [POSTER]
